Best of E3 2015!
The Electronics Entertainment Expo was this past weekend and every day since then has been packed full of interesting announcements, both big and small. Here are a few of my favorites:
1. Mass Effect Andromeda
Hands down, this was easily the announcement that I am most excited about. The Mass Effect series are some of my all-time favorites. Bioware has been quite open about the fact that a new game would be coming eventually, but this announcement marked the first look at the game as more than just a concept. The trailer is stunningly gorgeous, in both video and audio. It was definitely lacking in concrete details, but seeing as the game isn't slated for release until the holiday season of next year, I think that's understandable. I was able to pick up on two details though. Andromeda will be set in the future and will cover the exploration of a newly discovered solar system. This is more than enough information to get me giddy with excitement.
2. Fallout 4
Though there have been rumors for awhile, Fallout 4 was officially announced. It will be available on XB One and PS4, as well as PC. I've avoided all major spoilers, but I do know that it will be set in Boston. As you would expect, it allows for character customization and offers a widely expansive world to explore. The screenshots and videos they've released so far are gorgeous. The best part: it's set to be released on November 11th of this year. For those of you interested, the game is already available for preorder, and the Collector's Edition even includes a Pipboy which uses your cell phone in place of a screen.
For years fans have been demanding a remake of this beloved game. Final Fantasy VII was the first rpg I ever played, and it was really what lead to my interest in gaming. I've always had a special fondness for it. The announcement of the remake was met with as much fanfare and excitement as you might expect, but already people are beginning to wonder whether it's actually a good idea. The Internet is filled with comments and articles sharing all the reasons why this will ruin the game. Tetsuya Nomura of Square Enix openly stated that they were not attempting to simply redo the same game with better graphics, but rather that they intend to improve upon the original in many ways. This has a lot of people concerned. I'm choosing to be optimistic about it all, though I do understand a lot of the concerns. But the trailer is lovely and the prospect of revisiting Cloud, Aeris and all the others in modern graphics makes me want to skip around in excitement. Unfortunately, we still don't know anything about the release date. We do know that it will be available on PS4, though it is somewhat unclear whether or not there are plans to bring it to XB One or PC.
Unlike Fallout 4 and the Final Fantasy VII Remake, we've known that Kingdom Hearts 3 was coming since 2013. E3 was still a good source of new though. We got our first look at an official trailer, and confirmation that development is progressing smoothly. Thoguh we don't have a release date, we do know that it'll be available on PS4 and XB One.
-Persona 5 (This would have made the main list if it had been based on anticipation alone, but unfortunately there was very little news about it at E3. )
-Pillars of Eternity Expansion
-Horizon: Zero Dawn (I am hesitantly optimistic about this one, but only time will tell.)
